On January 29 to February 3, 2023, the Israel Space Agency in the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology will hold the annual Israeli Space Week.

As in past years, the program includes a wide range of events for the whole family and the general public throughout Israel, in 28 activity centers from north to south. In holding Space Week, the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology aims to make the field of space accessible to all of Israel’s citizens, with 20 lectures by active NASA astronauts, alongside professional conferences for the space industry, researchers in the field, and educators.

The annual Israeli Space Week, held for the 11th time this year, commemorates the legacy of Ilan Ramon, Israel’s first astronaut, who died on February 1, 2003, in the fatal Columbia disaster. This year, Space Week will focus on the theme Earth and Space Becoming One. Space Week events will also mark the Israel Space Agency’s 40th anniversary.

MK Ofir Akunis, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, said: "Israel Space Week marks the 20th anniversary of the Columbia crash and the tragic loss of Ilan Ramon. Ilan, the first Israeli astronaut, made us all very proud. So does Israel’s groundbreaking space industry, whose growth under the leadership of the Ministry of Innovation and Science, will give rise to significant Israeli scientific achievements. In keeping with tradition, the ministry will hold a series of free events throughout the country during the week".

Uri Oron, Director of the Israel Space Agency in the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, said: "We are now at a propitious time, in which space is becoming an essential dimension for maintaining a modern lifestyle. As access to space becomes more available, the emerging capabilities – those formerly reserved to global superpowers alone – introduce numerous opportunities for civilian uses that can significantly enhance life on Earth.

All Israeli Space Week events, including the dozens of experiential and free activities that will be offered to the general public, are listed on the Israel Space Agency website: https://www.space.gov.il/israeli-space-week/
